Driven by widespread user dissatisfaction with aggressive AI features and restrictions in Windows, the Linux desktop is predicted to grow faster than ever, especially benefiting from advancements in security and gaming compatibility. This security focus is hardening the core ecosystem, with the memory safe Rust programming language becoming a permanent fixture in the Linux kernel and core tools, complementing the widespread adoption of Immutable Linux distributions that enhance stability and supply chain integrity. While AI is expected to assist in kernel development and vulnerability patching, it is not foreseen to take over the core coding efforts.
